NEW STRUCTURE CHALLENGES COMPETITORS FOR MT BULLER SPRINT

It’s been almost 20 years since the last successful running of the Mt Buller Sprint, and in 2026, the event finally returns in just 5 weeks as the opening round of the Australian Tarmac Rally Championship, taking place 13–15 February.

After extensive feedback and a desire to protect the essence of raw tarmac rallying, ATR has revived the Mt Buller Sprint as an exclusive event for full competition vehicles.

The event introduces a new format and structure. While it may differ from what competitors and officials are used to, it represents an important step in exploring options for what works to deliver the best experience and shape future events.

"The demand from competitors to bring this event back was impossible to ignore and we made it happen," says Brittany Wilson, ATR Director.

"Starting up not one, but two brand-new events in just six months is no easy task," Brittany adds. "Every bit of support helps us showcase the level of events we deliver and gives us insight to ensure we’re providing the ultimate experience for competitors and officials alike. We’ve worked for five years to get our foot back in the door, so we need your help to keep it open for you."

The Mt Buller Sprint takes place on the legendary closed-road climb from Mirimbah to Mount Buller, a 15.5 km ascent featuring relentless bends, steep climbs, and sweeping alpine scenery. Competitors will tackle nine timed runs across the weekend, including shakedown stages on Friday afternoon, followed by full-length climbs on Saturday and Sunday.

For the first time, an official spectator location will be trialled, featuring free spectator access all weekend from Mirimbah Park, providing families, fans, and locals with front-row views of the action, with every start line to be watched.

Road closures will be in place:

·      Friday 13th February from 2:00pm – 5:30pm from Tyrol Car Park.

·      Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th February from 7:30am – 5:30pm along Mt Buller Road, from Mt Buller/Mt Stirling Resort Entry to Mt Buller Fire Station.

There will be no public access during these times.

Entry applications are open now and close Friday, 16 January 2026.
