STARTING 1 NOV 2025: ATR INTRODUCES AASA NATIONAL RACE LICENCE

Australian Tarmac Rally (ATR) is making a key update to its licensing requirements for all Speed Limited and Full Competition entrants. Effective 1 November 2025:

  • New applicants: All new licence applications must be for a National Race Licence.

  • Current licence holders: Existing AASA Tarmac Rally Licence holders will need to upgrade to a National Race Licence upon renewal, including completion of a medical assessment. This upgrade must be completed before 1st October 2026.

The good news is that the cost difference is minimal. AASA National Race Licence is only $10 more than the current Tarmac Rally Licence. Plus, it offers much greater value, giving you access to a wider variety of events, including tarmac rally, track racing, hill climbs, and sprints — all under the one licence.

WHY THE UPDATE?

  • Broader Access – The National Race Licence unlocks entry into a wider range of AASA-sanctioned events across multiple motorsport disciplines, not just tarmac rally.

  • Streamlined Administration – A single, nationally recognised licence simplifies participation for competitors involved in multiple forms of motorsport.

  • Strengthened Safety Standards – Requiring a medical assessment on application and renewal ensures higher standards of competitor health and wellbeing.

Please note: the National Race Licence does not cover off-road events.

OVERVIEW:

General Speed Licence (required for Tour): $190

National Tarmac Rally Licence (current): $560

National Race Licence (covers all road & track events): $570

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

From 1 November 2025:

  • All new ATR competitors must apply for an AASA National Race Licence.

  • Existing licence holders will need to upgrade to an NRL at their next renewal and before 1st October 2026.

  • A medical assessment will be required for all new and renewed licences.
